Project description

The Agropole North project aims to create a competitive agro-industrial hub in the northern zone of Senegal. It focuses on the processing, valorisation, and commercialisation of agricultural, livestock, and fishery products to accelerate territorial industrialisation.

General Objective

  • Strengthen the value added of agricultural products and reduce dependence on imports of agri-food products.

Specific Objectives

  • Create favorable conditions for private investment in the industrial processing of agricultural products, as well as in the supply of inputs and services;
  • Strengthen the capacities of actors in priority value chains to sustainably increase agricultural productivity.

Expected results

  • The production volume of the ASPH value chains supported by the project increased by 15,000 tons of rice, 5,000 tons of maize, 20,000 tons of onions, and 200,000 tons of milk.
  • The installed agro-industrial processing capacity increased from 700,000 to 1,000,000 tons for cereals (rice, maize, wheat), from 2,000 to 15,000 tons for onions, and from 10,000 to 20,000 tons for milk.
  • The industrial processing rate of the targeted ASPH productions increased from 80% to 95% for cereals (excluding rice), including fortified products, from 10% to 30% for onions, and from 10% to 20% for milk.
