Project description

Senegalese livestock farming is predominantly pastoral and relies on natural rangelands whose productivity fluctuates with climatic conditions. As a result, the ruminant herd faces chronic feed insecurity, increasing its vulnerability. Currently, forage supply consists mainly of crop residues whose quantity, quality, and prices are highly unstable, offering no guarantee of reliable availability. To ensure abundant, high-quality forage production capable of supporting emerging livestock value chains, the development of forage crops is essential.
