Project description

Industrial tomato is one of the main horticultural crops in the Senegal River Valley. National demand for double-concentrated tomato paste is estimated at 25,000 tons, requiring an annual production of about 150,000 tons of fresh tomatoes, while current production is only about 70,000 tons. The program proposes a revitalization strategy for the period 2024–2029 to establish the country as the West African hub for triple-concentrated tomato paste, meet national demand, and end the importation of concentrated tomato products.

Overall Objective:

Make the country the West African hub for triple-concentrated tomato paste through increased production and local processing.

Specific Objectives:

Develop adequate infrastructure to improve productivity and production of fresh tomatoes;
Promote public-private partnerships and private investment;
Professionalize family-based farms by supporting the emergence of young agricultural entrepreneurs.
