Project description

In 2023, the country imported 893,438 tons of wheat, representing a foreign exchange outflow of 187 billion FCFA. Wheat imports are carried out exclusively by millers, who transform it into flour. The project aims to initiate local wheat production in order to reduce dependence on imports and contribute to national food sovereignty.

Overall Objective:

  • Contribute to reducing wheat imports and reinforce national food sovereignty.

Specific Objectives:

  • Support the supervision and professionalization of wheat producer organizations.
  • Facilitate access to adapted financing for producer and processor organizations.

Expected results

  • Production costs are reduced, and the wheat value chain becomes sustainably competitive
  • National wheat needs are covered up to 40% by local production;
  • Producers’ incomes are improved
  • The national trade balance deficit is reduced.
