Project description

The project aims to reduce the vulnerability of populations living along the Langue de Barbarie to coastal risks and to strengthen urban and coastal resilience planning in the city of Saint-Louis. It includes three components: temporary resettlement, permanent resettlement, and strengthening of urban planning.

Overall Objective :

Reduce the vulnerability to coastal risks of populations living along the Langue de Barbarie and strengthen urban and coastal resilience planning in Saint-Louis.

Specific Objectives :

Respond to the immediate needs of disaster-affected populations by developing a temporary resettlement site with 543 mobile housing units.
Permanently resettle populations living in high-risk zones on a 15-hectare site in the municipality of Gandon.
Strengthen urban and coastal resilience planning.

Expected results

2,500 disaster-affected people who lost their homes during the 2017 and 2018 storm surges benefit from temporary resettlement.
15,000 people vulnerable to coastal risks on the Langue de Barbarie benefit from permanent resettlement.
Displaced populations benefit from restored livelihoods.
Urban and coastal planning in Saint-Louis is coordinated.
