Project description

The project aims to develop the industrial processing sector for groundnuts and other oilseeds, in order to optimise the value chain, increase the production of local vegetable oils and by-products intended for animal feed. It also aims to reduce Senegal’s dependence on imported oils and to
stimulate employment in the agro-industrial sector.

Overall Objective

  •  Develop the industrial processing sector for groundnuts and other oilseeds

Specific Objectives

  • Set up modern processing units and upgrade SONACOS
  •  Increase local production of vegetable oils to satisfy domestic demand and exports
  • Add value to by-products (oilcakes) for the animal feed industry

Expected results

  • Annual production of vegetable oils has increased and meets national consumption needs
  • Oilcakes are available at low cost for livestock farmers and feed manufacturers
  • Farmers’ incomes are improved thanks to better valorisation of raw materials
  • Competitiveness of the oilseed sector is strengthened
  • The country’s trade deficit is reduced thanks to import substitution
  • Direct and indirect jobs are created in production, processing and distribution
