Project description

Fishing is facing difficulties due to climate change, overexploitation of fishery resources, overcapacity, and illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing (IUU). Aquaculture presents an opportunity for supplying the local market and creating jobs. The project consists in freshwater fish farming through the establishment of three clusters in the regions of Matam, Tambacounda, and Kolda.

Overall Objective:

Promote economically profitable aquaculture enterprises for sustainable aquaculture development.

Specific Objectives:

Strengthen training for at least 550 young people in fish farming professions.
Establish production infrastructures.
Improve input production.
Improve support services and professionalization of the sector.

Expected results

1,332 tons of table fish are produced, representing double the national production.
1,389 direct jobs and more than 2,000 indirect jobs are created in the regions of Matam, Tambacounda, and Kolda.
