Project description

The project aims to strengthen the rice value chain by developing industrial units for the processing and valorisation of local rice, with the objective of increasing the processing capacity of paddy rice to 1 million tonnes per year. This will allow the production of 700,000 tonnes of white rice intended
for local consumption, reduce imports, and improve the quality and availability of local rice.

General Objective

  •  Strengthen the industrial rice value chain

Specific Objectives

  • Install modern processing units for a combined capacity of 1 million tonnes of paddy rice per year
  •  Improve the rice processing and yield rate to reach 700,000 tonnes of white rice annually

Expected results

  • 700,000 tonnes of locally processed white rice are produced
  • White rice imports reduced by 50% over 5 years
  • Agricultural producers’ incomes increase by 35%
  • 6,000 direct and 15,000 indirect jobs created
