Project description

As part of strengthening governance in solid waste management and improving related services, the State of Senegal has implemented the Project for the Promotion of Integrated Management and the Solid Waste Economy (PROMOGED) with total funding of 206 billion FCFA. The project covers the regions of Dakar, Kolda, Matam, Saint-Louis, Sédhiou, and Ziguinchor. PROMOGED represents the second phase of the National Solid Waste Management Program (PNGD).

Overall Objective :

  • Modernize waste management for a ‘Zero Waste Senegal.’

Specific Objectives :

  • Improve the functioning of the solid waste management system within local authorities.
  • Eliminate waste accumulation at the Mbeubeuss landfill.
  • Improve governance in the waste management sector.

 

Expected results

  • New CIVD sites (Integrated Sorting and Recovery Centers) are created.
  • Satisfaction of beneficiaries and women is improved.
  • The number of trained waste pickers (men and women) increases.
  • Waste collection, treatment, and elimination units are improved.
