Project description
The project aims to build and operate a urea (nitrogen fertilizer) plant with a production capacity of 1.2 million tonnes per year in the Ndayane Special Economic Zone (SEZ), as part of the Petrochemical City/Energy City initiative. The plant will transform natural gas from offshore fields
(GTA / Yakaar–Teranga) transported through the Senegal Gas Network. The shareholding will include both public and private operators.

Overall Objective
- Build and operate a urea plant with a capacity of 1.2 million tonnes per year
Specific Objectives
- Valorise/transform Senegalese domestic natural gas
- Ensure Senegal’s self-sufficiency in urea (N fertilizer)
- Export urea to the United States, Brazil and West Africa
Expected results
- 1.2 million tonnes of urea are produced annually
- 4,000 jobs created during the construction phase
- 400 jobs created during the operational phase
- Improved cereal yields (rice, wheat, maize)
