Project description

The project aims to build and operate a urea (nitrogen fertilizer) plant with a production capacity of 1.2 million tonnes per year in the Ndayane Special Economic Zone (SEZ), as part of the Petrochemical City/Energy City initiative. The plant will transform natural gas from offshore fields
(GTA / Yakaar–Teranga) transported through the Senegal Gas Network. The shareholding will include both public and private operators.

Overall Objective

Build and operate a urea plant with a capacity of 1.2 million tonnes per year

Specific Objectives

Valorise/transform Senegalese domestic natural gas
Ensure Senegal’s self-sufficiency in urea (N fertilizer)
Export urea to the United States, Brazil and West Africa

Expected results

1.2 million tonnes of urea are produced annually
4,000 jobs created during the construction phase
400 jobs created during the operational phase
Improved cereal yields (rice, wheat, maize)
