Project description

Senegal has strong potential for blue economy development, but increasing maritime traffic and safety challenges highlight the need for stronger surveillance and better infrastructures. The project includes an integrated maritime and river navigation surveillance system, dredging and waterway
development, acquisition of a scientific vessel, creation of a Maritime Single Window (GUM), and deployment of coastguards along the country's coasts and waterways.

Overall Objective

  •  Improve and secure river–maritime transport services by strengthening maritime hubs and
    navigation safety

Specific Objectives

  •  Implement an integrated maritime and river surveillance system
  • Improve management and coordination of maritime actors nationwide
  • Strengthen vessel monitoring in Senegalese waters
  • Fight piracy, illicit trafficking and marine pollution
  • Manage environmental risks linked to offshore oil and gas
  •  Bring maritime administration closer to users

  • Optimised control of maritime traffic and activities
  • Reduced pollution risks and illicit acts
  • Improved scientific knowledge of Senegal’s river–maritime environment
  • Increased surveillance time in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ)
